And yeah, that's the tone for today.
So these good Christian men go to Uganda to preach about how the gay is evil (there is a Maddow clip not included in the above showing one of them comparing gays to Hitler --of course-- and blaming them for Rwanda and the Holocost). All this leads up to the Uganda anti-gay bill, initially a death penalty for gays, now apparently 'just' a life sentence. Which some blog commenters have suggested is more or less human. Better than the homos deserve or get elsewhere. Right. Right?!
Of course in the wake of the death penalty revelation, all these good Christians back-peddle, mmmmmmm, just a bit. We don't want to kill the gay. No sir. We just wants to cure the gay, make 'em just like us good moral straight people.
And, for that matter, just like they are doing with these African countries. Making them 'just like us'. We'll get the last of those poor, benighted negroes over in Africa to convert to right good Christians. Yes, Sir! Hale-effin-luja. Praise Jeeeeeeeeessssssus. If we could just pass these bills back home, now there's some political expediency for ya.
That's probably on the Conservative Party agenda.
How many deaths are these good Christians responsible for this time around? How many Ugandans with AIDS/HIV will go untreated for fear of someone trying to CURE them of who they are? Or of being executed, or imprisoned for life.
So, this is my assertion. My take on how the world is changed. One person at a time. You are the most powerful force in the world, for good or evil.
If you are Christian, and you believe that is a good thing, then this is what I have to say to you:
The Ugandan anti-gay bill, the role that Christian anti-gay activism has played there, and the plight of those people... if these are not MAJOR talking points in your fellowship groups and your church.... if your minister has not taken a STRONG stance against the Christian leaders who created this situation, The Family, 'Reverend' Scott Lively, Rick Warren, and anyone else who helped this coming into being, then the most important evil for you to address ain't Obama or the Liberals or the Gay. It's right in your own household. So get to cleaning and stop effing with everyone else.
Don't accept leaders who back away from the death-provision of the Ugandan bill but who are unwilling to denounce it outright. Because that's just evil with a pretty smile. The truth is, even if they back down off killing people for being gay, the push is in 'the right direction'. Score one for evil. Literally, Scott Lively said the Ugandan anti-gay bill is 'a step in the right direction.' Yeah, until you are the person they are after. Freaking learn from history.
Yeah, so there you go. Will you distance, but not condemn? Will you accept the nice face and calm words offered by this evil? The antichrist won't be an Obama or an Al Gore. The antichrist, the mara, the angel of light IS that person who looks just like you, with words that sound so reasonable. Who sounds authorative. Whose actions are intended for the good of all. Denounce this. Don't be that person. Don't propogate this evil. All it takes for evil to exist is good people to do nothing. So someone once said.
Today, it is gays in Uganda. Are you so sure the day won't come when you are in the hated minority? This is about the fundamental sanctity of human life and liberty. You can think the gay is bad bad bad, but unless you want a return to Old Testament Times, it is your place as a member of the human race to respect the sanctity of any person's life and liberty.
And if you DO want that return to Old Testament rule... standby, friend. You don't measure up to those laws either.
